The keys to preparing for your child's entry into the crèche
The countdown is on. Soon, your little one will be joining the crèche, going to the nanny's, or starting nursery school. For this big moment to be a success, good preparation beforehand is essential. It must be psychological (anticipate the preparation), emotional (limit the volume of tears shed on the big day), but also material: you must make sure that your child lacks nothing and that he can easily identify his belongings among those of others, thanks to our label packs for nursery or kindergarten.

Crèche, nanny or kindergarten: preparing for the first separation
Whether it is to enter a crèche, stay with a nanny, or start nursery school, a first separation from parents is never easy for the child... and vice versa! This is why good preparation is essential. Here are a few tips on how to anticipate this change in your little one's life... and yours.

Anticipate the start of the school year
A first separation is something to be prepared for. Several days before, talk to your child about what will happen: "You're going to go somewhere where you can make lots of friends", or "You're going to stay with the nanny". For older children (from 6 months), visiting the crèche or discovering the nanny's house can help the child to get their bearings. Finally, plan for an adaptation phase during which your offspring will remain separated from you for longer and longer.

Prepare yourself emotionally
Children are sponges: they absorb their parents' emotions. If you are stressed or anxious about nursery school or kindergarten, your child will sense this. So it's crucial to stay calm, manage your emotions and show your child that everything will be fine. To manage your anxiety, don't hesitate to ask any questions that come to mind to the nursery staff, the nanny or the teacher: they are used to dealing with these situations and will be able to reassure you. If a question comes up in the evening or at work, write it down in a notebook to think about later.

Prepare baby's things
Preparing the baby's bag: this is a tangible task that will help you to materialise the event, and the first person concerned to understand what is happening. What should you pack?

For the crèche or nanny, there's no need to load up the mule: the professionals have everything you need (childcare equipment, games, nappies), and generally provide meals and/or milk. Just bring some personal items: a diaper (or two), a comforter, a spare dummy, and of course, a nursery label for each item of clothing to make sure you don't lose anything!

For the nursery school, there is no list of supplies to respect. Bring a change of clothes (each with a nursery label bearing your child's name), a pencil case with pencils, tissues, a snack if not provided, and a hat/sunglasses/sun cream set for hot days.

Identifying your child's clothes: the importance of the nursery label and the pre-school label
Baby's first steps in a community often rhyme with frantic crying... and lost things!

Whether it's the crèche or the nursery school, the professionals who take care of the children ask the parents to mark their belongings to avoid them being lost or interchanged. It is not uncommon to find one child's dummy in the other's bag, or to search for a pair of gloves all day. When it's the cuddly toy that disappears, a crisis is never far away!

To make sure this doesn't happen, you should use a nursery label or a kindergarten label to stick on every item of your child's clothing. There are several types:

Iron-on nursery label or kindergarten label for clothing to be applied with an iron.

Self-adhesive nursery or kindergarten label for clothing to be stuck on the brand or care label.

Nursery or kindergarten label to stick on the soles of shoes.

Round or rectangular nursery labels to stick on toys, supplies and other things your little one wants to take with them.

Our "nursery label" and "kindergarten label" packs are designed to withstand everything: machine washing, tumble drying, refrigerator or freezer storage, contact with water or the sun, etc.

Choosing a nursery for your child: what does it involve?
Choosing a crèche means making the choice of a collective environment. Your child will be cared for by a team of professionals (unlike the nanny and the childminder who are alone), welcomed on the premises of an establishment, and subject to the rules that apply in this setting (such as the fact that each of his or her clothes and personal objects must be identified with a crèche label).

Choosing your facility
Choosing a crèche also means choosing between several types of establishment:

Municipal crèche (around 40 children on average), the cost of which is adapted to parents' income.

A day-care centre, a collective and punctual childcare solution (for parents who work part-time, for example).

Micro-crèche (maximum 10 children in a more family-oriented setting), which is more expensive.

Other solutions: parental crèche, company crèche, kindergarten, etc.

Whatever the structure chosen, it welcomes children from 2 months to 4 years old.

Preparing your child's registration
Finally, you should bear in mind that nursery places are in high demand and rarely easy to find. The best thing to do is to prepare for your child's enrolment well in advance of the birth by putting together a file: information sheet, proof of address, last tax assessment, birth certificate or family record book, last pay slip, up-to-date vaccination record (at least for diphtheria, tetanus and polio).

Remember to make the right choice as soon as possible... and don't forget to prepare a nursery label for each of your little one's possessions!
